Irfab Multi-client Study: Specialist and Functional Architectural Coatings Market 2008–2018

Specialist and Functional Architectural Coatings Market 2008-2018

The Specialist and Functional Architectural Coatings Market study will be the first of its kind on the European and Middle Eastern Markets providing a unique source of data and insights on this fragmented sector. It is intended to concentrate on the architectural coatings with functional properties.

The study will bring you the benefit of this vital information base when formulating your global strategies – from technology to marketing. It will enable you to identify both the threats from competing technologies and future opportunities. Thus, the report will represent a reference guide for your long term strategic planning and provides a basis for more detailed segmental analysis.

The scope of the study will include Industrial, Commercial, Institutional, Residential, and Recreational Buildings. Systems with additional functional purposes to the expected aesthetic and protective properties of coatings will be described in the study. Whilst an overview will be given on the global market for architectural and decorative coatings, analysis of standard interior paints, and Do It Yourself ‘DIY’ market will not be included.

Fourier Transform Spectroscopy Testing: Service Life Prediction

Paint and Coatings have two main functions when applied to a substrate:

  1. Protection against
    • sunlight (photo-degradation)
    • oxygen and moisture (corrosion)
    • microbiological attack (defacement and rot)
    • wear (abrasion and scratching)
  2. Enhanced appearance
    • colour
    • gloss
    • texture

The length of time a coating will provide protection and enhanced appearance is crucial to building confidence in the product.

Thorough testing of a coating will enable the manufacturer to claim a longer lifespan. The testing and data are also useful tools for marketing the product.

Inaccurate testing could lead to claims, due to early failures.

PRA's Technical Department has extensive experience in providing reliable and independent testing and undertakes both field trials and laboratory tests.

Developing Skills and Knowledge in Surface Coatings Technology

Added Value from PRA Training

As another year ends it is time to reflect on the training provided by PRA in 2008 to support innovation and growth in coatings companies from all over Europe and the wider world. It is noticeable that clients return to us on a regular basis to attend a range of courses "to get themselves up to speed" in coatings technology. Additionally clients often comment that they enjoy amongst other things the opportunity to:-

  • Talk with tutors with expertise in their area
  • Network with other companies
  • Meet other sectors of their global company
  • Work and learn with their own colleagues offsite
  • Gain an overview of the latest developments at the PRA
  • Undertake the training in a beautiful part of London, close to Heathrow Airport so they can link their visit with other business needs

PRA's courses are continually updated to mirror the changes that are happening in the industry. Feedback from delegates attending the courses is used to modify both content and structure of the courses. Changes to courses include:-

  • More interaction and practical work
  • Emphasis within topics
  • Timings
  • Speaker input
  • Choice of topics

PRA Conferences 2009

One Day Symposium
Predicting the Service Life of Organic Coatings – Options and Constraints
21 January 2009, Hampton, UK

Predicting the Service Life of Organic Coatings

Symposium Programme Now Available

The coatings industry is undergoing considerable change in response to legislative action and the emergence of new technologies, hence the need for sound predictive methodologies is higher than ever before.

PRA has extensive experience in independent testing and has organised this one day Symposium to assist the coatings industry in finding the most accurate and cost effective solutions.

Building confidence in a new product requires that, in terms of protection and appearance, the life of the coating can be accurately predicted by the manufacturer. Predicting the service life of exterior products is beset with many difficulties and the objective of this Symposium is to provide a forum in which some examples of different techniques and methods used to investigate durability and service life are presented in the context of alternative strategies for investigation.

There is still time to register and this Symposium will be of value, not only to established practitioners of durability investigation but also to newcomers requiring an overview of the many issues involved.

Full details, including programme, abstracts and registration form, can be seen on our website:- www.pra-world.com/conferences/servicelifeprediction
