Expanded Verification of Combined Salt Spray and UV Exposure Cabinet

This project aims to expand work begun in the project on the Development of Cyclical Tests of Polymeric Coatings which include Exposure to UV Light, Temperature Extremes and Stress. The aim of this expanded project is to validate new artificial cyclical performance test methods for protective coatings for a wider range of naturally encountered conditions. The previous project used two exposure sites: temperate marine and temperate light industrial. In the extension project, four new exposure sites have been added. These are: hot and humid; heavy industrial; arctic coastline; hot and dry.

Within the project, coatings are being exposed in the cyclical corrosion test cabinet, and compared with the results from real-time exposure at the sites. Correlation will allow the test cycle to be optimised for each set of natural conditions.
